Matt is a true local, born in Ballard and raised in both Kirkland and Mercer Island. He’s an alumnus of Seattle University and Seattle University School of Law. Longtime locals may remember Matt’s well-publicized SCUBA diving adventures in Lake Washington during the 1980’s.
Matt’s love of animals began early. His family always included cats and dogs and his childhood was also blessed with chickens, ducks, horses and other barnyard friends, back when Kirkland was still rural. In the late 1990’s Matt co-founded a chain of 22 espresso cafes in Baltimore and Washington, DC. He is a prolific writer about local history and authored the book, “A Look to the Past: Kirkland.” Matt lives in Kirkland in with his son, Cameron.
